I spent my day doing a fresh install of macOS on the work laptop.

I am doing a ‘new baseline’ install. Fresh install and then just add the apps I need and nothing more.

I am also going out of my way to not have any personal stuff on the laptop where possible.

I have been toying with the idea of getting a new Mac Mini M4, but the thing is I have this nice iPad Pro M4.

So I am going to use the iPad as my main computer now.

I already use Linux servers to do a lot of compute work for me, even from the laptop. So I don’t really lose a lot of power or flexibility there.

Plus I have my Mac Mini M1 to remote into as a fallback if needed.

The main thing I will be missing as always is a good SQL client.

Nothing exists for iOS that does what I want, and with work moving to Entra Auth makes it even more difficult.

Maybe I should finally figure out some Swift and make an app myself.

I just wish there was a way outside of Playgrounds to write apps on an iPad natively.

Anyway, getting back to the iPad.

I also spent quite a bit of the day with the iPad plugged into my big monitor and it was actually quite nice to use that way.

The iPad also works pretty well with my portable monitor.

Basically, so far, so good on the change….less than 24 hours in
